Krishi Khata Is Born
Sharing some tid-bits of our learning from the Intial Days of Krishi Khata
Hello Guys, Hope you are doing well and eating well and sleeping welling and enjoying life as it meant to be. Sharing with you our first newsletter from the product side. We are going to share this newsletter every fortnightly. Now since this is our first newsletter, we may be drooling over the product team journey from a nostalgic and frustrating but a huge learning curve perspective.
Part 1 : KHATA That and KHATA This
In the mid of June we had talk with Abhilash where he suggested what if do something like KhataBook or Bukukas. Our first reaction was hell yeah, but after sometime it went to meehhhh…….
Yup this is how I believe most product journeys start, ideas look interesting but why you actually get into brass tacks it starts to resemble like a date.
But over the course of 10 days we did the market research, analyzed the competitors and we came to the conclusion that yes the Krishi Khata in fact has some promising avenues.
It covers two most important things:
1.Digitizing and collecting the data from the most undigitized sector of India - Agri Sector
2.Possibility of rapidly scaling the app and thus increasing our user base that in turn is going to affect our core business - lending.
Part 2 : Prawduct Ye Prawduct Wo
Once we started drilling out on the nitty and gritty of the app and made the initial wire frames we got a huge boost that yes we might be onto something.
But like the conventional Bollywood movies, we started to run into some minor problems that boofed up to Mogamo type villian.
Some Problems we faced as first time lifting off the product:
lost on the tech side, many of things we were doing were after learning and then implementing, fixing bugs and then repeating. We were continuously defaulting on our timeline
Where laser sharp focussed on good flow only, have missed out that the customer is not our girlfriend and not gonna make us happy by just doing the good flow
Emphasised on bundling more features and not give attention to the UX part, the app was broken at many places,(UI also, since no one has designed an app in our team before)
Part 3: Power Rangers AgriFi Force
1 month into the project we decided it’s time to call some people who can help us in lifting this project up. We officially mended into the Agrifi Team on 14 - July - 2021, and revealed what we were working on.
Truth be told, it enlisted mixed reactions from some questioning the sanity of this as this is not our core business and some seemed excited and cross-questioning us on the thing that we have built.
Nonetheless we get immense help from the team, from understanding the whole of the Product Journey to Making PRD(dreaded term in Product Circle, Fuck up PRD, everything is fucked don’t fuck up PRD but yet things can go wrong)
PRD in my night Dreams be like ;)
Some learning :
Documentation is the key to everything, write everything down, and I mean everything
Communication is of utmost important. In our initial days we were feeling like postman, ye kar do, ye karwa do. At later state we surely worked on this and have made the communication flow more smooth.
Making a product is not a big thing, getting it to be adopted by users is of the prime importance but it doesn’t mean that you can launch a half baked product so making a product is important.
So in conclusion, the product cycle in itself is a paradox! Not everything is required in the first go! The user is going to have a learning curve and we want that curve to be as smooth as possible. Once they have reached a certain point we can add more features. This helps in making the complexity level of the app to be at same level with every version
Part 4: Picture Abhi Baki hai mere Dost!!
There are lot of the things that we want to share with you all but not in this newsletter. This was meant to be the opening of the new initiative that the Product team is taking to make it’s process more transparent.
And we might a little egostic but we do belive the that the product is at the centre of the startup. Everything flows from product so the learning we get are varied and very insightful. But it is also true that Product is itseld the culmination of all the team. If Product Teamt is absent, things might still work in startup that is it is not a necessity but a leisure.
And what's the best way to enjoy leisure, is to use it whenever you can.
We Hope you guys have a little fun while reading this. Suggestions and feedback are welcome.
Stay tuned, the next newsletter shall be dropping in mid of next week.
Meanwhile:
Everyone to everyone at the Team Agrifi
